Image metadata is information stored beside the encoded picture, such as GPS coordinates, capture time, camera details, author fields, comments and editing software. This tool shows the supported privacy metadata it detects, removes it inside your browser and reparses the result before download. It does not send the image, filename or detected values to a server or map service.
How to use this tool
- Select, drop or paste up to 10 JPG, PNG or WebP files. Each file can be up to 20 MB, with a 60 MB combined input limit.
- Review the detected metadata. A clear warning appears when a supported GPS field is present, but the coordinates are not sent to a map service.
- Choose whether downloads use neutral numbered names, then remove the privacy metadata. Encoded image and animation-frame payloads are copied without re-encoding.
- Check the verification result and retained display data, then download each cleaned image or collect completed files in a ZIP. Keep the originals until you have checked the outputs.

Supported files and limits
- Supported inputs are valid JPG/JPEG, PNG/APNG and WebP/animated WebP files. HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, TIFF, RAW, GIF, BMP and SVG are not accepted.
- Verification covers the privacy-bearing structures supported by this tool. It does not claim that the result contains no metadata at all: an ICC colour profile and a minimal orientation instruction may remain so the image displays correctly.
- Enhanced or multi-image JPEG files are rejected when the tool detects MPO/MPF, appended payloads, APP11/JUMBF or C2PA-like data, JPEG-XT, or gain-map and Ultra-HDR markers. The tool does not flatten or partly clean these files.
- The tool does not blur faces, signs, documents, reflections or locations visible in the pixels. It does not inspect sidecar files, cloud records or information already copied elsewhere.
- Neutral numbered output names are selected by default. If you keep a source-derived name, review it before sharing because a filename can contain a person, project, address or date.
- The verification does not cover steganography, invisible watermarks, arbitrary proprietary payloads or image provenance systems. Removing supported metadata does not guarantee anonymity.
- Valid APNG and animated WebP frames and timing are retained. Malformed files or container structures that cannot be cleaned and verified safely are rejected.
- Removed metadata cannot be restored from the cleaned copy by this tool. Keep the original when capture details, ownership information or editing history may be needed.
Common questions
Which metadata does it remove?
It removes supported GPS, camera, device, date, author, copyright, software and description fields, alongside XMP, IPTC/Photoshop data, comments and removable text metadata. The result is reparsed to verify that these supported privacy structures are absent.
Does metadata removal reduce image quality?
No image or animation frame is decoded and re-encoded. The tool copies the encoded payloads byte-for-byte, so it does not introduce another round of JPEG or WebP compression.
Why can orientation or ICC information remain?
Orientation tells an app how to rotate or mirror the encoded pixels, while an ICC profile describes how colours should display. The tool may retain a minimal orientation instruction and the original colour profile to avoid changing the visible image.
How do I know the GPS data was removed?
After creating each result, the tool parses it again. Download is enabled only when the supported privacy metadata count is zero and any retained orientation or colour data matches the stated policy.
Will APNG or animated WebP still animate?
Yes, when the input is a valid supported file. Animation chunks, frames, timing and loop data are copied rather than decoded. The tool rejects malformed animation containers instead of saving an uncertain result.
Does it remove C2PA, invisible watermarks or AI traces?
No such claim is made. JPEG files with detected APP11/JUMBF or C2PA-like structures are rejected. The tool does not test for steganography, invisible watermarks or every proprietary provenance system.
Is the cleaned image completely safe to share?
Metadata cleaning addresses the supported hidden fields only. The pixels and filename may still reveal a face, address, document, location or project name, and copies already stored elsewhere are unaffected. Review the result before sharing it.
