Cloud-based QR Code access control for an education centre
A private vocational college and higher education institute in Hong Kong offers post-secondary and sub-degree programmes. They needed a QR Code access control system that would allow part-time staff to enter their education centre outside office hours.
Challenge
01Entrances could only be opened using physical keys or passwords.
Access passwords needed to be changed regularly.
No staff were available on site to open doors after the centre closed.
Part-time staff worked irregular hours, making key collection and handover difficult.
There was no system for recording attendance for non-teaching staff.
Solution
02IoT implementation
Installed a QR Code and NFC reader at the main entrance.
Enabled staff to scan a QR Code to record their arrival and open the door.
Configured doors to remain unlocked during office hours.
Automatically synchronised access records with the admin panel for real-time reporting.
Staff app
Generate and deactivate QR Codes.
Open doors remotely.
View access records.
Cloud-based admin panel
Manage staff details and work schedules.
Set permitted working days and hours for individual staff members.
Generate and deactivate staff QR Codes.
Monitor and download access reports.
View real-time access status from anywhere with an internet connection and the required permissions.
Outcome
03Students and teachers can enter easily during office hours, when doors remain unlocked.
QR Code permissions restrict staff access to their assigned working times and access rights.
The cloud-based system provides real-time visibility of access activity.
Staff spend less time arranging key handovers with part-time workers.
Access can be managed through QR Code permissions without changing physical locks or shared passwords.
